Who can we help?
If you are an individual consumer and have a problem or dispute with a bank, finance company, credit union or other financial institution.
CCLSWA only provides legal representation for low income and disadvantaged members of the community.
When we cannot help
We cannot help you in the following circumstances:
- if your dispute is with another individual
- if you are a business
- if you have a dispute with a trader or service provider about goods or services other than the provision of financial services
- if you already have a solicitor working with you.
If you call us and you fall into one of the above categories we may be able to refer you on to an appropriate organisation that can help you.
What happens when you call?
When you ring CCLSWA you call is answered at reception. Your details are then registered and a return call is then booked for one of our solicitors to contact you at a mutually suitable time. In order for us to give you proper advice, our solicitor requires as much information as possible about your contract or account. When you speak to the solicitor it is important to make sure you have all the relevant documents (including contracts, notices and letters) with you. If the solicitor thinks it is necessary to see you, an appointment will be made for you to come to our office.
We help with specialist advice on:
- What lenders can do and what you can do if you are unable to meet you obligations under a loan contract.
- What a lender must do before they are able to enforce a contract.
- Privacy and credit reporting matters.
We can also provide:
- Information on current issues in consumer credit
- Information on credit practices
- Referrals to other appropriate agencies
- General written information
- Resources for community workers
